Joint Center Presents to Black County Officials on Future of Work

On May 4, Joint Center President Spencer Overton joined other leaders to speak on the “Workforce Education Development and College” panel at the National Organization of Black County Officials’ (NOBCO) Economic Development Conference in Greenbelt, MD. The event brought together NOBCO members, Black community leaders, business leaders, and community service providers.

Future of Work and the challenges Black county officials face in finding policy solutions. In December 2017, the Joint Center released a study that exposed the impact of automation on Black communities Spencer answered questions about reducing the skills gap, promoting Black ownership, digital readiness, and lifelong learning.

Carlos Greene of NOBCO moderated the panel. Joining Spencer Overton on the panel were:Dr. Charlene M. Dukes, the eighth President of Prince George’s Community College and its first female President, Jocelyn Tate, and Stephen Powell, the National CARES Mentoring Movement Chief Program Officer.
