Spencer Overton participated in the Emerging Tech DC conference’s Future of Work panel. The conference, organized by Public Knowledge, focused on the potential implications of new technologies such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence, the internet of things, and virtual reality, including on how we work.
The Joint Center was invited to share its insights on how autonomous technologies will impact the future of work. Spencer discussed how AI may change the workforce, how to mitigate potential harms, and solutions that ensure AI’s societal benefits outweigh the harms. The conversation centered around expectations about workforce shifts, solutions to retrain and redeploy the future workforce, and how policymakers can prepare for the future.Public Knowledge Policy Counsel Daiquiri Ryan moderated the discussion. Other panelists included Hispanic Heritage Foundation Innovation and Technology Program Manager Alberto Avalos, and Goodfriend Group Senior Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs DeVan Hankerson.
