The United States is home to 40 million Black Americans, but too often these communities are lumped together into a monolithic category of “Black” or the even vaguer “people of color” in public opinion research. This misses Black Americans’ diversity of identities, experiences, and priorities. That is why Third Way and the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies launched a multi-round research initiative to understand similarities as well as differences among Black Americans as we head into a major crossroads for our country in 2020.
