Hill Diversity
The Guardian Cited Joint Center Research on Racial Diversity in the House of Representatives
The Guardian cited the Joint Center’s Racial Diversity Among Top Staff in the U.S. House of Representatives report highlighting how people of color still face challenges gaining leadership roles on the increasing presence of women in senior staff roles, particularly as chiefs of staff, in the U.S. Congress, where historically men dominated.
From the article: “People of color face their own challenges on the Hill. According to a 2022 report from the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, people of color account for only 18% [percent]of top House staff, even as they make up 40 [percent] of the national population. In the personal offices of white Democratic members, people of color represent 14.8 [percent] of top staff, compared to 5.2 [percent] in the personal offices of white Republican members.”
