October 2024 Jobs Day Analysis
The Joint Center analyzes the employment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and showcases how the numbers impact Black workers. Our October Jobs Day analysis is below.
The Black unemployment rate continued to decline from 6.3 percent in July to 5.7 percent in October. The Black unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.7 percent from September to October.
From September to October, the number of Black workers employed increased by 31,000. In October, the unemployment rate for Black men increased to 6 percent, and for Black women, it decreased to 5.4 percent.
From September to October, the unemployment rate for young Black workers decreased from 13.2 percent to 12.1 percent and remained unchanged at 9.2 percent for all young workers.
Inflation slowed to 2.1 percent in September, bringing the annual rate down to 2.3 percent. As inflation continues to cool it is important to ensure Black workers have access to the labor market.
