About the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies

The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, America’s Black think tank, provides compelling and actionable policy solutions to eradicate persistent and evolving barriers to the full freedom of Black people in America. We are the trusted forum for leading experts and scholars to participate in major public policy debates and promote ideas that advance Black communities. We use evidence-based research, analysis, convenings, and strategic communications to support Black communities and a network of allies.

Currently, the Joint Center focuses on:

  • Economic Policy, which centers Black communities in policy debates about workforce policy, small business, economic development, tax policy, and household economic security
  • Workforce Policy. which centers Black workers in policy debates concerning the future of work, workforce development, and access to good jobs.
  • Technology Policy, which is dedicated to exploring the impact of emerging technologies and developing policy solutions to improve the lives of Black communities.
  • Hill Diversity, which analyzes staff diversity on the Hill and applauds members of Congress with diverse staffers.

The Opportunity

The Special Assistant to the President must be a highly motivated, efficient individual who is able to work under pressure and handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion. Calendar and e-mail management will be a key responsibility for this role, as well as ensuring the President is successful in prioritizing and balancing a diverse portfolio of projects and tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Takes ownership of correspondence and scheduling with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the president, when appropriate
  • Manages the president’s calendar and drafts formal communications
  • Plans travel arrangements
  • Coordinates board, committee, and donor meeting schedules and logistics
  • Performs minor accounting duties, such as expense and receipt management

Qualifications

  • Culture and mission-driven – extremely passionate about the Joint Center’s mission of improving the socioeconomic status and civic engagement of African Americans
  • 3-5 years of work experience in an administrative/scheduler role
  • Exceptional professional acumen
  • Ability to examine complex situations and to articulate information to diverse groups of people
  • Must have exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to problem-solve quickly
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google products

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with experience, the salary band for this position is $80,000-90,000. Benefits include 100% employer-sponsored healthcare, dental, and vision; as well as STD, LTD, and life insurance coverage. After one year of employment, up to a 5 percent match in our 403(b) plan. Generous PTO, quarterly mental health days, and no-meeting Fridays.
