November 2024 Jobs Day Analysis

The Joint Center analyzes the employment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and showcases how the numbers impact Black workers. Our November Jobs Day analysis is below.

From October to November, the unemployment rate for Black workers increased from 5.7 percent to 6.4 percent, while the overall unemployment rate slightly increased from 4.1 percent to 4.2 percent.

From October to November, the number of Black workers employed decreased by 276,000.

In November, the unemployment rate for Black women increased from 5.4 percent to 6.1 percent, and for Black men, it increased similarly from 6 percent to 6.7 percent.

From October to November, the unemployment rate for young Black workers increased from 12.1 percent to 12.7 percent and decreased from 9.2 percent to 8.7 percent for all young workers.

Total employment for all workers rose for November, but Black workers did not experience these gains, highlighting the need for equitable labor policies in hiring, retention, wages, and benefits.
