June 2025 Jobs Day Analysis

The Joint Center analyzes the employment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and showcases how the numbers impact Black workers. Our June Jobs Day analysis is below.

From May to June, the unemployment rate for Black workers increased from six percent to 6.8 percent.

From May to June, the number of Black workers employed decreased by 193,000.

In June, the unemployment rate for Black women decreased to 6.1 percent, and for Black men, it increased to 7.5 percent, the highest since January 2022.

From May to June, the unemployment rate for young Black workers increased from 11.6 percent to 17.9 percent, and the overall unemployment rate for all young workers increased from 9.7 percent to 11.4 percent.

In June, the labor force participation rate for Black women was 58.6 percent.

The unemployment rate for Black women has fluctuated from 5.4 percent in January to 6.1 percent in June. As #BlackWomensEqualPayDay approaches, it is critical to advocate for stable labor market outcomes, equitable wages, and economic justice.
