Joint Center’s Commitment to Advancing Racial Equity Remains Steadfast
WASHINGTON — In response to today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down race-conscious admissions at Harvard and UNC, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies issued the following statement as a reminder that America’s Black think tank is fully dedicated to continuing to advance racial equity for Black communities through policy solutions.
“Decisions made by the Supreme Court have a profound impact on the pursuit of racial equity in our nation. Just as with cases such as Dred Scott v. Sandford, Plessy v. Ferguson, Adarand Constructors, Inc. v. Peña, and Shelby County v. Holder, we recognize that setbacks are nothing new in the journey toward progress. These setbacks remind us of the persistence necessary to dismantle deeply rooted systemic barriers. The Court’s decision underscores the critical need for the work of the Joint Center and our allies in producing research and policy solutions that eradicate the persistent and evolving barriers to the full freedom of Black people in America,” said Joint Center Interim President Jessica Fulton.
Fulton continued: “The Joint Center’s dedication to advancing racial equity remains unwavering and we are more determined than ever to be resolute in finding actionable-policy solutions to increase access to good jobs and high quality education for Black workers, ensuring that the full diversity of our nation is reflected among the congressional workforce and political appointees, making sure that Black people are able to participate fully in our economy, and guiding emerging technologies to help, rather than harm, Black communities. Through rigorous research, data-driven analysis, and collaboration with partners and stakeholders, we will continue to develop evidence-based solutions that drive meaningful change.”
