Joint Center Submits Statement for the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services Hearing ‘Strengthening the American Economy: Promoting Growth, Opportunity, and Prosperity’

The Joint Center submitted a statement for the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services hearing, “Strengthening the American Economy: Promoting Growth, Opportunity, and Prosperity.”

From our statement, drafted by Joint Center President Dedrick Asante-Muhammad:

“The Joint Center’s research leads us to a direct conclusion: recent policy has strengthened the vast concentration of wealth at the top while weakening the economic stability of the nation as a whole — and it has done so with disproportionate consequences for Black workers, Black families, and Black communities. An economy that strengthens itself only at its apex while hollowing out the foundation on which the majority of Americans stand is not an economy that is growing, providing opportunity, or building shared prosperity. It is an economy that is becoming more fragile, more unequal, and less resilient.”
