Joint Center Statement on Bomb Threats Against Historically Black Colleges and Universities

In response to the bomb threats at HBCU campuses across the nation, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies releases the following statement:

The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies condemns the series of violent bomb threats targeting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country. This week — the start of Black History Month — nearly two dozen institutions nationally were targets of these racially motivated acts. The FBI has identified suspects in this ongoing case, and we hope that the investigation remains swift, fair, and thorough.

For over 100 years, HBCUs have played a vital role in removing barriers to full freedom of Black people in America. HBCUs remain steadfast vehicles of economic opportunity for Black students, who lean on these institutions to provide settings that are nurturing and secure. We join our allies who have called out the domestic terrorism against HBCUs and stand with the students in their right to have a safe campus environment, free from threats of hate-based violence.
