Joint Center President Penned Op-Ed in OtherWords on Senate Pathways Report

Joint Center President Dedrick Asante-Muhammad penned an op-ed entitled “Senate Pathways to Power: We Need Leaders Who Look Like America” in OtherWords. In the piece, Asante-Muhammad discusses the importance of diversity within Congress to ensure that the nation’s leadership truly reflects its people and serves all of people. He continues with addressing Joint Center’s commitment to advocating for equitable representation, particularly for African Americans, in congressional staffing roles.

From the op-ed: “At the Joint Center, we’re committed to collaborating with members of Congress, advocacy groups, and nonprofit organizations to address this facet of racial inequality — a challenge that should no longer persist in 21st-century America. The closure of the House Office on Diversity and Inclusion is a setback, but it only strengthens our resolve to keep fighting for the inclusion that’s vital to our democracy’s health and legitimacy. We need to ensure all voices are heard and represented in the halls of Congress. Given the profound influence senators wield, the diversity of their staff is paramount to ensuring that the nation’s leadership truly reflects its people and truly serves all of its people.”
