Joint Center President Joins Two Panels at SXSW

Joint Center President Spencer Overton joined two panels at SXSW in Austin, Texas this year. The first panel, Facing Digitalization: A Workforce at Risk, focused on the challenges brought on by automation and the “solutions for equipping underserved communities with the skills necessary to succeed in tomorrow’s economy.” Panelists included Ron Marlow (Vice President for Workforce Development, National Urban League), Dr. Peggy McLeod (Vice President of Education, Workforce Development, and Evaluation, UnidosUS), and Tony Williams (Senior Director of Government and External Affairs, Comcast NBCUniversal and Joint Center Board Member). The second panel, Diversity in Tech and The Future of Black Communities, focused on “how the lack of diversity throughout the tech ecosystem will impact social equality, employment, prosperity, and the future of Black folks.” Panelists included Cynthia Overton (Director of Tech Workplace Initiatives, Kapor Center), Dr. Allison Scott (Chief Research Officer, Kapor Center for Social Impact), and Dr. Ivory Toldson (President adn CEO, Quality Education for Minorities Network).
