Joint Center Praises President Biden for Appointing Shuwanza Goff to Top White House Position

Goff is first Black woman to serve as director of the Office of Legislative Affairs

WASHINGTON — In response to President Biden’s announcement that  Shuwanza Goff will serve as assistant to the President and director of the Office of Legislative Affairs, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies issued the following statement:

“We commend President Biden for his appointment of Shuwanza Goff as assistant to the President and director of the Office of Legislative Affairs. This appointment is an important step forward to increasing Black representation in the highest tiers of policymaking. She brings a wealth of experience and an important perspective, having been the first Black woman to serve as floor director in the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Jessica Fulton, interim president and VP, Policy of the Joint Center. “Ms. Goff, who previously served as deputy assistant to President Biden, is again breaking barriers as the first Black woman to serve as White House director of Legislative Affairs. We congratulate Ms. Goff and hope her appointment will position the White House to more effectively address the deep-rooted issues impacting Black Americans.”
