Joint Center Participated in WIOA Senate Briefing

Joint Center Director, Workforce Policy Dr. Kayla C. Elliott participated in a virtual briefing for Senate Democratic Staffers with AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and the Good Jobs Collaborative. The briefing discussed how to reshape workforce development policies to ensure they are worker centered. The speakers walked through how Senators can work to improve upon the A Stronger Workforce for America Act, passed by the House in 2024, and build frameworks that give workers agency in decisions that affect their future.

Additional speakers included Jane McDonald, senior advisor, AFL-CIO Working For America Institute; Elizabeth Royal, assistant director for Healthcare Workforce, SEIU; Dr. Teófilo Reyes, president and CEO, Restaurant Opportunities Centers United; Emily Andrews, director of Education, Labor and Worker Justice, Center for Law and Social Policy; and Mary Alice McCarthy, senior director, Center on Education and Labor, New America.
