Joint Center Joins Panel on Brown v. Board of Education and Georgia’s Voting Law

Joint Center President Spencer Overton joined a conversation with University of Kentucky Education and Civil Rights Initiative Executive Director Dr. Gregory Vincent to discuss how Brown v. Board of Education relates to Georgia’s voting law. The conversation was held at the University of Kentucky College of Education’s Education & Civil Rights for the New Decade virtual conference.

The full description for the panel, entitled “Democracy, Citizenship, and Civil Rights: How does Brown relate to Georgia’s voting law?” is as follows: “In its holding in Brown, the Court noted “the importance of education to our democratic society.” This session considers the relationship between access to quality public education and engagement with our democratic processes. Presenting scholars focus on the role space and race play in access to educational opportunity, employment, and voting.”
