Joint Center Joins Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester and Congressman Bryan Steil to Discuss the Future of Work in Rural America

Joint Center Workforce Policy Director Dr. Alex Camardelle joined Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) and Congressman Bryan Steil (R-WI) to discuss the future of work in rural America. Other participants included Justin Maxson, USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development, John Holevoet, Dairy Business Association Director of Government Affairs, Timothy Martin, Case New Holland IndustrialNA Human Resource Director, Dr. Adam Wolf, Arable Labs Founder & CEO, Dr. Mark Rembert, Center on Rural Innovation Director of the Rural Innovation Network and Chuck Conner National Council of Farms Cooperatives President & CEO.

The discussion description is as follows: “About 60 million people, or about 1 in 5 Americans, live in Rural America. Rural areas are home to many farming and manufacturing jobs, providing food and products that the rest of America benefits from. However, many rural communities consistently face unmet needs when it comes to the digital divide, education, employment, workforce development opportunities, and future of work investments. Following the Great Recession, many rural areas saw no job growth, or even declining job growth. During this roundtable, Members and presenters are invited to discuss policies Congress should consider to ensure that rural communities experience economic and job growth and keep our communities strong.”
