Joint Center Interim President Interviewed with TheGrio

On TheGrio’s edition of “The Hill With April Ryan,” April Ryan interviewed Joint Center Interim President Jessica Fulton on our recent analysis of the financial goals and aspirations of Black Americans.

“One of the things we found in our study was that people said that inflation was one of the things that were keeping them from meeting their financial goals, things like gas prices, things like food prices are hitting folks’ pocketbooks,” said Fulton in the interview. “The other piece of that is that at the same time, Black folks were blamed for inflation because we were sending stipends to so-called ‘undeserving’ folks, the child tax credit advance payments, anything that was putting the money into the pockets of poorer black folks was deemed as causing inflation.”

TheGrio notes “in a new study, half of the respondents said their economic picture looked good. However, The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies is focusing on the other half, those living below the poverty line, earning less than 30,000 a year. The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies found Black America still has not felt the positive effects of the recovery of financial infusions during the COVID crisis.”
