Joint Center Hosts Third National Economic Roundtable
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Joint Center hosted its third National Economic Roundtable.
Building on the Joint Center’s brief, “Opening a Retirement Account Is Not Enough to Close the Black Retirement Divide,” our panelists offered insights on building wealth, retirement security, advancing economic opportunity, and more.
Panelists included Dr. Algernon Austin, Director, Race and Economic Justice at the Center for Economic and Policy Research; Dr. Kilolo Kijakazi, former acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration and nonresident fellow at the Urban Institute; and Dr. Gbenga Ajilore, Chief Economist at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Joint Center Senior Researcher Cantrell Dumas for moderating the conversation, and AARP VP, Thought Leadership Staci Alexander provided opening remarks.
Our goal with these roundtable discussions is to bring together leaders across research, policy, and practice to engage in meaningful discussion about economic policy, the broader economy, and their impact on Black communities. We hope the conversation helped identify opportunities for deeper collaboration and alignment.
We are thankful to AARP for supporting this research and this event.
