State of the People Power Tour

Joint Center Contributed to the State of the People Black Papers

Joint Center President Dedrick Asante-Muhammad participated in the State of the People Tour, which stopped in Richmond, VA. The Joint Center served as lead authors for the tour’s Black Papers on tax policy and entrepreneurship. The “State of the People Tour” is a nationwide call to rally, restore, and reimagine what’s possible for Black communities across the U.S.

The State of the People Black Papers serves as an accessible starting point for understanding key policy areas that shape the lives of Black communities. Authored by leading Black policy experts, the series offers in-depth analysis across five pillars: housing, education, economics, healthcare, and social justice. These papers aim to inform and empower Black communities while offering a roadmap for policy reform and systemic change.

Joint Center Senior Fellow Jessica Fulton was one of five lead authors for the “Building An Economy That Works For Us: The Black Economic Vision,” Black Paper. This paper worked to connect Black communities’ strengths and the policy changes that will remove structural barriers to Black economic success.

Joint Center President Dedrick Asante-Muhammad and Senior Researcher Dr. LaToya Parker were two of four lead authors for the “Tax Policy and Economic Justice” Black Paper. This paper examined the intersection between tax policy and racial economic justice, focusing on how the tax system impacts diverse communities.
