Joint Center Black Youth Worker Task Force Member Penned Op-ed on DEI Narratives
Joint Center Black Youth Worker Task Force Member Evan Wayne Malbrough penned an op-ed entitled “The narratives around DEI have to change so our country can move forward” in Rolling Out. In the piece, Marlbrough discusses the need to change the narratives around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in America, highlighting how recent Supreme Court decisions and anti-DEI rhetoric undermine efforts to support marginalized communities and highlighting five of the key messaging elements from “Improving Policy Narratives for Young Black Workers.”
From the op-ed: “In May 2024, I worked with the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies on their new project, Improving Policy Narratives for Young Black Workers, as a part of the Young Black Worker task force. This project provided a collection of 13 messaging principles developed from insights from the task forces, focus groups, and thorough media analysis to give journalists, advocates, scholars, practitioners, and policymakers with better ways to address issues facing young Black workers in today’s economy.”
