Forbes Highlights Joint Center Broadband in Rural South Research
Forbes highlighted the Joint Center’s Broadband in the Black Rural South report in an article examining how the digital divide continues to reinforce internet inequality across the United States. Drawing on our findings, the article emphasizes the lack of broadband access in rural Southern regions with large populations of people of color.
From the article: “In more stark geographic terms, in the region of the rural South heavily populated by communities of color about 25.8% of residents lack the option to subscribe to fixed broadband at all, according to the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. Many of those with available service still do not adopt it due to cost and other barriers. This gap isn’t geographical trivia, it translates into lost work hours, missed classes, and limited access to investing platforms. These are tools reshaping wealth access across generations.”
