The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, America’s Black think tank, provides compelling and actionable policy solutions to eradicate persistent and evolving barriers to the full freedom of Black people in America. We are the trusted forum for leading experts and scholars to participate in major public policy debates and promote ideas that advance Black communities. We use evidence-based research, analysis, convenings, and strategic communications to support Black communities and a network of allies.

Position Summary

The Senior Researcher conducts original research and analysis on issues related to tax policy, racial economic inequality, and the racial wealth divide. The Senior Researcher will be responsible for leading research projects in these areas, sharing findings with stakeholders, engaging with affected communities, and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, and analyze original and existing quantitative data for projects, including managing data, writing computer programs for data processing and analysis, and producing literature reviews.
  • Provide organization-wide support on research design and data analysis.
  • Design research to meet high standards of methodological rigor.
  • Report research findings, including producing tables, graphics, and maps for reports, as well as writing up findings for briefs and reports and presenting at meetings and conferences.
  • Develop high quality written reports, analysis, and presentations for varying audiences.
  • Provide organization-wide support on research design and data analysis.
  • Commission research projects and manage external consultants on projects needing external expertise.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for issues related to tax policy, the racial wealth divide, and racial economic inequality.
  • Engage in outreach to identify, deepen relationships with, and work in coalition with community stakeholders, key policymakers, and national partner organizations and other partnerships to support the Joint Center’s mission.
  • Exhibit strong program and project management skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing demands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Commitment to the Joint Center’s mission and cultural values
  • A master’s degree is required; a doctorate is a plus
  • At least seven years as a researcher
  • Ability to think creatively and develop new and innovative research strategies
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Solid planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $140,000-$160,000. Benefits include 100 percent employer-sponsored healthcare, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and life insurance coverage. The Joint Center offers generous PTO, quarterly mental health days, and no internal meeting Fridays.
