Joint Center Workforce Director Attends Partnership for Transportation Innovation and Opportunity Roundtable

On June 19th, the Joint Center’s Workforce Director Harin Contractor participated in the Partnership for Transportation Innovation and Opportunity (PTIO) roundtable discussing the possible effects on autonomous vehicles (AV) and the workforce. The group – whose members include American Trucking Associations, Daimler, FedEx, Ford, Lyft, Toyota Motor North America, Uber, and Waymo – brought together key policy thinkers from Aspen, Brookings, R Street, along with the Joint Center to begin a dialogue around thoughts and concerns as these companies move rapidly toward more autonomous vehicles.

During the discussion, Harin asked the companies to focus on listening to worker voices – particularly when it comes to training, as a one size fits all model may not be effective for all communities.
