Joint Center Conference Call: Working with Alabama’s Senator-elect Doug Jones

This morning, the Joint Center hosted a conference call discussing next steps in working with Alabama’s newly elected Senator, Doug Jones. Participants focused on Senate staff diversity and ways to ensure that diversity remains a priority as Senator Jones continues to build his Alabama and DC staff. Of the many people that engaged in this conversation, speakers included Don Cravins of the National Urban League, Erin Hustings of the NALEO Educational Fund, Councilwoman Shelia Tyson of Birmingham, Catrena Norris Carter, and Cliff Albright of the Black Voters Matter Fund. Reporters from Roll Call, AL.Com, and USA Today joined the call which reached a number of Alabama stakeholders. The discussion centered around the value of diversity in the hiring process and how to continue engaging Senator Jones on this issue and issues that matter to the people of Alabama.
