Senior Research Associate, African Americans & Global Warming Program
Global warming clearly represents a threat to the environment, but, for millions of people of color in the U.S., it is also one more manifestation of an energy and transportation system that regularly endangers the health and livelihood of their families, their communities, and their homeland, be it coastal Georgia or rural Kenya. As a result, communities of color in the U.S. have a perspective that is both cross-cutting and unifying on how to approach policy-making for climate change.
The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies (JCPES), the nation’s leading think-tank for issues of concern to African Americans and other communities of color, has recently launched a program on African Americans and Global Warming to ensure that the unique perspective of these communities is brought to bear in crafting social and political solutions to climate change.
