This year, the National Healthy Start Association's 11th Annual Conference will be held March 14th - 17th in Washington, DC. Held at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, the conference will consist of workshops, lectures and plenary sessions.
Moving Ahead Together: Celebrating the Legacy, Shaping the Future of Maternal and Child Health
The Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs Annual Conference will be held March 6-10, 2010, at the Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD.
National Association of Black Journalist Annual Health Disparities Conference
The National Association of Black Journalists held its Annual Conference on Health Disparities March 4-6, 2010 at the Kaiser Foundation's Barbara Jordan Conference Center in Washington, DC. The goal of this annual conference was to provide print, broadcast and online journalists the tools to effectively report on the impact of health care reform and health policy on underserved communities. Journalists and media professionals left with resources to inform and empower readers and viewers to action in their lives.

Charting a Course for Health Care Quality Improvement: Data-Driven Strategies for Eliminating Health Disparities
On March 25, 2010, the Brookings Institute will hold this conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The day-long conference will focus on improving data collection, measurement, and reporting as a means to achieve health equity. Dr. Brian Smedley will moderate a featured panel.

A Look at Health Care Reform and What Remains to be Done
The National Academy of Social Insurance held it's 22nd Annual Policy Conference, "Beyond the Bad Economy: Jobs, Retirement, Health, and Social Insurance" from January 21-22, 2010 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. This two day conference included four break out sessions, key note speakers, as well as a luncheon debate. On Friday January 22nd, Dr. Brian Smedley participated in Session IV: "A Look at Health Care Reform and What Remains to be Done" along with four other panelists.
Fourth Annual Scientific Symposium: The Economic Impact of Health Reform
The National Medical Association held its Fourth Annual Scientific Symposium on January 9, 2010. The event was convened at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida. This year's topic was "The Economic Impact of Health Reform."

On Wednesday, November 4, at 1 p.m. ET, this Today's Topics In Health Disparities live webcast examined how ready the health care system is for the influx of newly covered individuals that health reform aims to deliver. In the health care proposals being considered by Congress, changes to Medicaid alone could mean as many as 15 million people would become newly eligible for the program and many live in medically underserved areas.

A Senate Briefing on the Cost-Savings of Reducing Health Disparities in Health Reform

In order to build support for health reform and inform congressional Members and staff about health and health care disparities, the National Working Group on Health Disparities and Health Reform coordinated a congressional briefing on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. The focus ofthis briefing was to highlight the costs associated with health disparities in our country as well as the cost-savings we would realize from reducing these critical disparities.
Beyond Health Care Reform: Health & Equity in All Policies
The Disparity Reducing Advance (DRA) Project, in collaboration with the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust presented: "Beyond Health Care Reform: Health & Equity in All Policies." The event took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in the Room B339 of the Rayburn Building.
