Whichever party controls the White House and U.S. Senate after today, cultural divides will persist. The first step toward moving forward together is understanding different perspectives.
Over the next few weeks as we transition into a new government, the Joint Center will release several data briefs about the policy priorities of black Clinton voters, Latino Clinton voters, white Clinton voters, and white Trump voters.
A few insights:
Nearly half of black Clinton voters said they believe criminal sentences are too harsh, compared with 6 percent of white Trump voters.
Black Clinton voters, white Trump voters, and Latino Clinton voters were more likely than white Clinton voters to support increased government spending on programs that help people create or expand businesses.
