Smart Cities and Black Mayors

On Friday, April 28, 2017, Joint Center President Spencer Overton served on a panel on “Creating Smart Cities” at the African American Mayors Association Annual Conference.  The session was moderated by Net Communications President Julia Johnson, and other panelists included Verizon Smart Communities VP Lani Ingram, CTIA State Legislative Affairs Director Beth Cooley, and Comcast Machine Q Project Lead Bryan Witkowski. Spencer’s remarks focused on the critical role of African American mayors in preparing Black workers for the new economy, and the significance of Smart Cities technology and 5G infrastructure in attracting economic development in the cities where large numbers of African Americans live.
