Joint Center’s Don Bell Meets with Philadelphia Community Leaders to Discuss Diversity

On May 16, Don Bell, Director of the Black Talent Initiative, headlined a breakfast with Philadelphia community leaders and an afternoon meeting of students, to discuss the Joint Center’s efforts to increase diversity and inclusion in government and the need for young people to become active participants in policy making.

Don also met with Deborah Mahler (pictured above), the Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental Affairs for the City of Philadelphia. In that meeting, the two discussed efforts to increase staff diversity in DC and Philadelphia, best practices in hiring, and potential ways to collaborate as the Joint Center and other cities to make diversity and inclusion a local issue. This is the latest in a series of speaking engagements, which included Yale Law School and the Black Policy Conference at the Harvard Kennedy School in April.
