Joint Center Speaks on Smart Cities Issue Forum at CBCF ALC ‘17

On Friday, September 22, Joint Center President Spencer Overton spoke on Smart Cities & You: The Future is Here, Don’t Get Left Behind. The issue forum was hosted by Congresswoman Yvette Clark (NY 9th District) as a part of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference.

Columbia, SC Mayor Steve Benjamin moderated the issue forum. In addition to Spencer, discussants included General Motors Company Executive Director of Communications for Global Product Development David Albritton, former Edison Electric Institute Executive Vice President David Owens, Samsung Sr. Manager and Counsel Derron Parks, and T-Mobile Vice President of Federal Government & External Affairs Marie Sylla-Dixon.

The session covered the expansion of smart technologies from urban areas to rural communities; the impact of smart technologies on energy and the economy; and how to mitigate potential challenges associated with smart city technologies.

Former FERC Commissioner Colette Honorable provided opening remarks, and New York Senator Kevin Parker provided closing remarks.
